Our Thermal Heavy Oil Group has an opportunity for a Development Engineer in the New Technology Development Group. Reporting to the Manager, Technology Development, this individual will be responsible for identifying and evaluating new technologies. The Technology Development Group works with industry partners, plus internal and external idea generators to identify technologies which will increase process efficiencies, improve project economics, and continue our quest to be an industry leader in environmental responsibility.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and an entrepreneurial spirit. Previous SAGD experience would beneficial, but is not required.

Responsibilities: 

• Evaluate new technology ideas and processes, and screen them for their potential to improve Devon's Thermal Heavy Oil processes, economics, and/or environmental impact
• Prioritize new technology ideas given their potential benefit within the context of the Thermal Heavy Oil and Technology Development Group goals and objectives
• Identify the steps and resources required to move a technology idea from the idea stage through the testing and evaluation phase leading to a decision point of field implementation
• Liaise with all Thermal Heavy Oil groups along with the Environmental, Legal and Business groups to bring in the right personnel resources for input and action at the right stages as the idea progresses through the evaluation steps

Qualifications:    

• Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Health and Safety
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering and registered member with APEGGA
• 5-10 years' of previous experience
• Entrepreneurial spirit combined with sound problem solving and decision making skills
• Strong organization skills with the ability to orchestrate multiple tasks within given timeframes
• Strong communication skills with a special ability to enthusiastically sell an idea to individuals and groups
• Ability to assess the risk/reward potential of an idea through the various stages of its life cycle
• Previous project management experience would be an asset
