The Lead Process Engineer will be responsible for supervising the quality of process related work completed by EPCM, companies involved in the engineering and design of new facilities.
This role will appeal to an individual who enjoys the balance between process engineering and design work and providing leadership and guidance to all project disciplines. In particular the person will need to demonstrate an ability to operate with a broad strategic viewpoint on technical matters in order to address a potentially wide variety of engineering, design and technology selection issues. The Lead Process Engineer will report directly to the Pike Engineering Lead who is based in Calgary.
Responsibilities:
Provide leadership to the Process Engineering group;
Provide process engineering expertise to other projects and personnel within the thermal heavy oil facilities department and operations group;
Coordinate process scope with stakeholders including Devon personnel, engineering consultants and vendors/suppliers to achieve the project objectives;
Work with Development, Operations, Production, and Facilities colleagues to support project teams in the development of new facilities;
Responsible for ensuring that work by the engineering consultants meet the project requirements and is executed in an orderly, logical fashion;
Specific scope of responsibility includes design basis definition, PFD's, P&ID's, heat and material balances, shutdown philosophy, process control strategies/narratives, HAZOPS, equipment process specifications, hydraulics, relief system sizing, ramp-up profiles and operating envelopes, and all associated process engineering calculations;
Lead process design reviews and HAZOPS;
Participate in management of change processes when necessary;
Work with Operations, Production and Facilities to identify process solutions to current operational issues to reduce costs and improve recoveries;
Implement technical lessons learned of previous projects and ongoing operations;
Identify opportunities for improving efficiencies and reducing GHG emissions;
Ensure compliance with project plan and procedures;
Reinforce and promote Devon's EH&S standards & attributes;
Maintain knowledge base by staying current with advancement in technologies and active involvement in identifying new technology;
Support the development of standards and specifications.
Qualifications:
Professional Engineer registered with APEGGA, preferably in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or eligible for membership) with 8+ years of related experience;
Process engineering experience on projects with capital expenditures in excess of $1 billion;
Experience in plant operations considered a strong asset;
Technical experience with SAGD water chemistry considered an asset;
Experience ranging from Front-End Engineering through to Detailed Engineering and support of Construction and Operations;
Genuine team player who will encourage teamwork with other disciplines within the organization;
Proficient with industry standard process simulation software such as "Hysys", "Promax" and pipe hydraulics;
Previous project experience with an EPC company would be considered an asset;
Well-developed leadership, technical, communication and organizational abilities;
Experience within Canadian regulatory standards;
High level of initiative and ability to complete tasks on schedule and budget;
Excellent organizational, documentation and writing skills.
