Operations Superintendent

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will provide both people and technical leadership to the Operations Department at the Carseland facility.

Specific responsibilities will include:                                                                                                       

·       Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a 1500 TPD Ammonia plant; a 2100 TPD Urea plant; a 500 TPD ESN plant; and a 150 TPD Duration plant

·       Supervision of 8 Staff including; a Chief Steam Engineer; 4 Operations Supervisors; 3 Technical Support and Training staff; and approximately 70 Operating Technicians

·       Ensuring timely implementation and ongoing review of Operations Excellence, Asset Management, and EMS standards and/or best practices within the department

·       Ensuring rigorous systems and operating practices are in place, followed, and reviewed to ensure continuous improvement in safety, reliability and efficiency

·       Providing strong people leadership to the Operations Department and the site as part of the Carseland Management Team

·       Ensuring department employees receive the required technical training to safely do their job; and Formula For Success training to promote a “High Performance Culture”

·       Preparing and managing the department’s operating and capital budgets with a strong focus on margin improvement

·       Playing a key role in the Site’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in the event of a serious environmental or safety accident

Qualifications of the position include:

·       University degree in Chemical Engineering with 7-10 years of experience in plant operations or a minimum of 15 years experience in progressively more senior Operating positions in an ammonia/urea plant environment

·       Proven leadership ability

·       Strong analytical and organizational skills

·       Proven ability to drive change and communicate effectively

Carseland Nitrogen Operations (CNO) is located about 50 kilometres or 25 minutes southeast of Calgary and employs approximately 160 people. This world class facilities location provides the amenities of a major city while being close to mountain parks and recreation areas.
