Job Description:

The Manager of ASG (Administration Services Group) Training will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing information technology training programs - SAP, E&P/M&M business applications, Productivity Tools, Competency Based, On boarding, etc. The manager will lead training programs to achieve the goal of delivering exceptional customer service to both corporate and field personnel at Devon, ensuring all training curriculum is of the highest quality and specifically designed for the needs of Devon.

The Training Manager will create and lead training programs that teach various techniques and methods on specific computer systems, applications, tools and processes, developing educational programs that use the latest training techniques and best practices, as well as the latest concepts in motivation and learning theory. Other duties will include assembling lesson plans, collaborating with external consultants, maintaining training budgets, and analyzing class performance and attendance rates.

The role requires excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills, as well as a thorough understanding of relevant subject areas. The candidate should have strong leadership and analytical skills, and the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical students. Since the manager will provide training capability across different levels and functional areas, strong networking skills with senior executives is vital for gaining support and building trust within the organization.

  • Confer with management and conduct surveys to identify training needs based on projected technology advancements.
  • Proactively look for ways to help people by identifying educational needs and developing formal educational or training programs or classes.
  • Provide guidance and expert advice to management or other groups on training-related topics.
  • Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
  • Analyze training needs to develop new training programs or modify and improve existing programs.
  • Develops and implement strategic training plans and long-term roadmaps.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time.
  • Evaluate instructor performance and the effectiveness of training programs, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Supervise quality and related staff development to ensure quality training service.
  • Monitor training effectiveness to ensure service levels meet established service level agreements.
  • Develops and implement training metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Prepare training budget.
  • Assign work and address performance issues within prescribed guidelines.
  • Build an effective training team through the selection and hiring of employees.
  • Train and evaluate employees to enhance their performance and development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Details Specific to this Job:
  • Minimum 5 years management experience required in the training function in a large company
  • Oil and gas experience preferred.
  • SAP experience desirable.
  • Strong relationship management, communication skills, team skills and leadership skills.
  • Must be assertive, analytical, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, set priorities, work under pressure, and follow through with assigned tasks under limited supervision.
  • Human relations skills required to select, develop, mentor, discipline and reward employees.
  • Organization skills and time management skills required to balance and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work in a team environment at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Must be willing to accept a work schedule with hourly demands which will vary as departmental workload fluctuates.
  • Moderate travel required.
  • Bachelor degree in I.S. related field.
