SUMMARY

 

Participates as a member of the Transmission and Distribution team and works in the construction and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution systems, including substations, street light systems to maintain continuous and satisfactory service to customers. Performs plant checks and minor plant maintenance.

 

DESCRIPTION

 

 

1.      Adheres to the Corporation’s high safety standards by following approved safe working plans and worker administered and operator administered protection plans.

 

2.      Performs feeder and phase balancing.

 

3.      Troubleshoots and repairs distribution systems including pole and conductor replacement.

 

4.      Performs meter readings and installs single phase and poly phase metering.

 

5.      Provides customer service by investigating customer problems, and complaints, connecting/disconnecting power and collecting payment as required. 

 

6.      Constructs transmission and distribution, single phase and three phase, including installation of three phase transformer banks.

 

7.      Performs switching duties in transmission, distribution, generating plants, and substations.

 

8.      Assists in system restoration following a system disturbance under the direction of the control centre operator.

 

9.      Stops, starts and synchronizes prime movers as per operational requirements.

 

10.  De-energizes and isolates / energizes and ``return``s to service equipment and their respective auxiliary equipment as per standard procedures.

 

11.  Performs right-of-way brushing maintenance.

 

 

 

12.  Works with and assists other trades and contractors and provides guidance and training to apprentices and others as required.

 

13.  Completes outage and system event reports.

 

14.  Maintains the confidentiality of all Corporation information. Adheres to all Corporation policies, procedures and guidelines.

 

15.  Other related duties.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Exposure to high voltage equipment, heights, and plant environment. Provides relief coverage for other districts as required. Travel and periods of immediate stand-by coverage are requirements of this position. May be exposed to inclement weather while working outside and when traveling.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

§  Journey Power Line Technician with rigging and hoisting certification with several years of related experience.

§  Knowledge of Windows based computer software applications.

§  Rubber glove experience an asset.

§  A proven track record and commitment to safe procedures and encouraging a safe work environment.

§  Strong client service orientation with good interpersonal skills.

§  A valid class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement.

§  A valid First Aid certificate.

§  Ability to work in a team and cross-cultural environment.

 

In addition to this base salary we have two northern allowances: 5% of base + an additional $6,300 per year and for this position a location allowance of $2,100. These allowances are paid to employees on a pay period basis.

 

This position in Dawson City comes with a three bedroom company house for a monthly rent of $600.00. The heating fuel for the house is a taxable benefit paid by the company.

 

All overtime is double time and the current on-call rate is $3.78/hr.

 

Employees receive 4 weeks of holidays each calendar year, prorated for the start year, and then 5 weeks at 8 years employment and on up to a maximum of 7 weeks. Those employees living in the districts receive an additional 2 days for travel. As well there is a vacation travel allowance that is paid yearly on the employees anniversary date of $1300 for the employee and $850 for spouse and each dependent.

 

We have a fairly comprehensive group insurance package that includes extended health and dental, life and dependent insurance, STD, LTD and AD&D.
