We currently have an opening for a Heavy Equipment Operator at Wheelabrator Portsmouth.
 
Summary:  

  • Operates assigned equipment in excavating, loading, spreading, covering and compacting earth and/or solid waste safely and efficiently.
  • Operate coal conveyor system according to safety practices and procedures as requested and/or required. 
  • Operate assigned equipment for the transfer of RDF from the bunker to the feed hoppers for the mixing of refuse, ensuring a relatively constant heating value.
  • Grade, compact, load, move, transfer, and shape earth, mulch, compost, and/or waste.
  • Operate equipment in spreading, compacting and covering waste.
  • Inspects equipment for proper operating condition and loose or worn parts, as assigned. 
  • Reports defects or damage to equipment to the appropriate authority.
  • Observes instruments while vehicle is in motion.
  • Responsible for the proper use, loading, operation and cleanliness of the equipment.
  • Performs routine clerical duties such as completing station logs, field and time reports and requisitions.
  • Participates in cleanup activities as directed.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Works shift and overtime as required.
 


Job Requirements

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
Six months experience or related training desirable.
Mechanical abilities sufficient to perform equipment maintenance, minor repairs and general preventative maintenance.
