Description:

HSE Coordinator (Drilling and Completions) - Alberta / BC Area (and associated field locations) Job ID: U21904

Location: Alberta / BC Area, Alberta, Canada

At Shell, we are celebrating almost a century of operations in Canada. For nine consecutive years, we have been named one of the country's top employers and recognized as a leader in sustainable development since 1991. Our focus on innovation and technology has made us a leading manufacturer, distributor and marketer of refined petroleum products. We are Canada's largest producer of sulphur and one of the largest oil sands developers in the country.

As we look ahead to the next 100 years, we need creative, ambitious and innovative professionals who can help us achieve our goals and help grow our business. We will provide you with the resources to put your ideas into action, global opportunities to advance your career, and outstanding benefits and rewards that support your quality of life. Join us and let's make a real difference together.

Shell Canada is currently seeking a HSE Coordinator (Drilling and Completions) for our Alberta / British Columbia Area (and associated field locations).

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting in implementation of the HSE Program in our Heavy Oil and Ground Birch projects.
  • The successful candidate will work closely on the Well Delivery Teams to enhance the management of personnel health and safety, (employees, contractors and the public) which is critical to continuous improvement in the overall HSE performance.
  • Liaison with drilling and well servicing contractors and internally with those accountable for project management.
  • Assist Contractor and field staff with expert advise on implementation of Shell’s Health Safety and Environmental Management System Project Plans.
  • Provides line management with knowledgeable-to-expert advice on implementation of HSE MS for company staff and contractors. This will include guidance on:
    • Risk assessment, safety psychology and accident prevention
    • Incident investigation methodology, tools and techniques
    • Use of Shell Group HSE technology and tools
    • Technical safety information and data
    • New safety developments generated by HSE (safety and ERP), RDS, industry, government and contractors
    • Interpretation of safety regulations, standards, policies, plans and programs
    • HSE audits and inspections
    • Emergency preparedness
    • Be key person in orientation and HSE readiness of field supervisors; involves Safety Skills sign-off
    • Assist HSE Analyst in contractor pre-qualification and selection
    • Participate in incident investigations, providing root cause analysis expertise, and follow-up with suggestions on prevention
    • Monitor performance of company and contractor safety programs and plans. Will initiate programs to enhance safety for our contractor staff and prepare modifications to programs based on these studies
    • Participate in HSE audits and Health Risk Assessments
    • Arrange HSE training services for company staff and consultants

Key Challenges of this position include:

  • Shell's HSE standards are significantly higher than the industry norm, however we must use the same contractor pool. Contractor HSE management, therefore, requires extra effort, governance and influence to bring them up to Shell requirements.
  • Establishing a Heart and Minds Safety Management culture in a largely contractor workforce unfamiliar with Shells policies, practices, procedures and expectations.
  • Translating the HSE strategies, plans and commitments into reasonable and accepted actions for employees and contractors.
  • Extremely diverse logistical barriers and social challenges with the extremely diverse properties of the region.

Requirements:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • HSE Diploma preferred.
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation or preparing for CRSP Examination.
  • Minimum of 3 years HSE experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years related oil and gas experience preferred.
  • Must have strong knowledge of Management Systems, project plans, HSE Case methodology, safety psychology, risk assessment, accident prevention, incident management, public consultation, emergency preparedness, contractor management and HSE legislation.
  • Strong leadership skills including coaching, leading by example, facilitator, and decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Current drivers license required. (will be required to provide a current drivers abstract).
  • This role is project base, therefore expectation of overnight travel will be required to a maximum of 2 weeks rotation.

Application Deadline: Friday 10 September 2010
