Technical Instructor

Training Department

 

Reporting to the Superintendent – Training (Rail Maintenance), you will be responsible for developing and delivering track welding and track technical programs to support all training matters pertaining to activities for the subway, SRT and surface track systems. Your duties will include: developing criteria, standards and guidelines for the needs assessment, design, delivery and evaluation of all track and welding and track technical programs; ensuring adherence to established standards and practices; ensuring that track welding and track technical programs are consistent with regulatory standards; conducting research and designing and/or evaluating instructional materials testing mechanisms and procedures to ensure test reliability/validity; writing or editing training manuals and instructional guides; performing quality assurance checks on all track welders and track employees on an ongoing basis; performing tests and issuing qualifying credentials to Track Welders if the test specimens are satisfactory, and performing periodic quality assurance checks on technical track modules ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures. Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer. This is a 40 hours work week. Annual Salary Range: $74,110.40 - $92,601.60 (Level 8)

 

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

 

You require comprehensive knowledge of track welding and track system principles and practices associated with preventative/corrective maintenance procedures for subway, SRT and surface track systems and related electrical, electronic and mechanical systems, equipment and facilities.  You require sound knowledge of, and the ability to apply, adult education principles, instruction, assessment, testing and evaluation techniques, research methods, and program design and development methodologies.  You must have the ability to read, comprehend and explain complex, technical information and/or operating/maintenance procedures. You require the ability to effectively deliver a comprehensive range of training programs to diverse groups in classroom, at actual work situations, to large and small groups, and on a one-on-one basis.  You must possess excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, analytical, interpersonal, group facilitation, and coaching/counselling and leadership skills.  Knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work is required.  These abilities would normally be acquired through a related community college program, and several years of directly related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You must be certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) and/or the American Welding Society (AWS) and you must be a certified Trainer in Track Welding and be able to assume the roles of a Rail Maintenance Officer.  Must have or be able to obtain a community college certificate in Training and Development, or the equivalent, and have or obtain a specific accreditation to deliver and certify employees through various training programs.  You must possess a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
